The design is for a luxury two-storey villa and separate ground floor guesthouse in the area of Perlia, on the island of Poros, Saronic Islands.
The basic idea of the design is to create a soft intervention, an architectural ensemble in full harmony with the surrounding natural environment. The site is a rare 3153 square metre plot of land, located on the slope of the island’s harbour, in the middle of a wooded area, with stunning unobstructed sea and mountain views. Its peculiar “Z” shape inspired the idea of distinct architectural volumes that function as a single whole through a “walk in nature”: the main element of the composition, the main house, is connected to the guest house by a path of stairs and ramps built with local, natural materials. Along this path, the visitor follows the natural morphology of the land, crossing outdoor living spaces, passing through the forest and overlooking the traditional settlement of Poros. An angled element (low wall/road retaining wall) is placed along this private path to separate the public from the private side of the property, each intended to serve different functions.
A shaded parking area will be located at the entrance to the property, at the rear of the guest house, while an access road will run through the property and lead to the south-west side of the main house, where the entrance is located.
On the ground floor of the main house there are all the indoor and outdoor living spaces, the kitchen, the living and dining room, the toilet, the storage room and the staircase to the first floor. On the upper floor are the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a second bedroom with en-suite bathroom and outdoor access areas. The small guest house consists of an open plan living room, bedroom and WC.
